Pre-Diabetes and Diabetes Mellitus

Pre-Diabetes is a term used to describe chronically elevated levels of sugar in the blood; however, these levels are not high enough to diagnose someone with diabetes. At this time, lifestyle changes are recommended to reduce risk of diabetes development.

Diabetes is a chronic (life-long) disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. This can involve problems with the hormone insulin. Diabetes can occur when the pancreas produces very little to no insulin, and it can occur when the body is no longer responsive to insulin.
